A stunning country with breathtaking landscape, offering sharp contrasts between desert, ocean and mountains. Long distances not with standing, Oman is fairly easy to get around and such picturesque places as Nizwa, Rustaq and Sur make a trip very worthwhile. For those interested in staying in the Muscat area, there is much to see and do. The souqs are historic and laden with all sorts of interesting knick-knacks and items of interest to the tourist. There are several rather good museums that document the immense history and diverse and rich culture of Oman, all of which dates back five thousand years. Specific recommendations include the Mutrah Souq, the ancient Mutrah-Muscat trail, the Grand Mosque, the waterfront at Mutrah, and the museums Bait Al Zubair, Bait al Barandah and the Oman Military Museum. Oman is famous for its coffee and dates and its warm hospitality.
